Since 2012 SiREM has participated in the School to Career Program of the Upper Grand District School Board that provides experience in local businesses for high school students. Our most recent Co-op student, Varushan Sukumar, is a grade 11 student at Guelph Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute (CCVI). Varushan joined SiREM in September 2016 and was involved in a variety of efforts including supporting KB-1® Primer production and general lab activities such as making stock solutions. Varushan has learned a lot about what it is like to work in a lab especially the operation of specialized equipment. Co-operative Education Teacher, Fiona Robinson, describes Varushan’s experience “SiREM lab provided a rich learning experience in a lab research environment. He was supported in working in various experiments and walked through the process of interpreting data and seeing a direct result of research. He was welcomed into, and felt part of, the SiREM community. Our thanks to each one of the team who took a personal interest in Varushan’s success. It has given him more direction for his future and the confidence to explore it.”

All the staff at SiREM would like to thank Varushan for his service and wish him well in his future endeavours!
