Abstract

Dr. Kevin Kuntze (lab manager and innovation expert, Isodetect GmbH, Germany) will discuss the use of compound-specific stable isotope analysis (CSIA) for remediation monitoring and source forensics. Case studies will be presented on the combined application of different in situ monitoring methods (CSIA; molecular genetic analyses; BACTRAP® in situ microcosms with 13C-labled compounds) to determine powerful parameters for evaluation of natural contaminant degradation. Brent Pautler (Chemistry Services Manager, SiREM) will discuss how SiREM can support clients in North America with CSIA for groundwater and vapor intrusion investigations.

SiREM’s webinar series features guest speakers who are subject matter experts to provide the latest information on technology advances in environmental remediation and site characterization. The webinars will combine recent research and development activities for new and emerging contaminants and technologies with real world applications to characterize and remediate contaminated sites.

The Presenters

Kevin Kuntze, Ph.D.

Lab Manager | Isodetect GmbH

Kevin Kuntze is the lab manager and innovation expert at Isodetect GmbH, Germany. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Leipzig (Germany) in the research field of anaerobic biodegradation of groundwater contaminants. Before his engagement at Isodetect, Kevin worked as a coordinator of a joint German-Israel Research Project and as an executive assistant at the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig, Germany. In the past 16 years he developed many innovative tools in the area of molecular biology and compound-specific isotope analysis for the assessment of in situ degradation of organic contaminants. As the innovation expert at Isodetect he is responsible for the development and implementation of new and highly efficient analytical tools within the business areas of pollutant degradation and monitoring of gas & geothermal energy processing.

Brent Pautler, Ph.D.

Chemistry Services Manager | SiREM

Brent received his Ph.D. in environmental analytical chemistry in 2013 where he gained advanced technical experience in spectroscopy, chromatography, mass spectrometry, passive sampling, and chemistry informatics. Throughout his career, he has worked with scientists, engineers, and consultants, applying his chemistry and information technology expertise to help them solve unique problems in the laboratory and the field. His role includes managing and advancing SiREM’s passive sampling portfolio, analytical testing services while supporting CSIA business development.
