Kayla Finney
Senior Lab Technician – Bioaugmentation Culture
In this Employee Spotlight, we’re thrilled to shine a well-deserved light on Kayla, a dedicated member of our SiREM family since July 2020. Joining the SiREM team during the pandemic was a challenge, as lab hours were in shifts. During this time, Kayla quickly picked up her roles and responsibilities in the culture production area. In May 2022, due to masking policy changes, we saw Kayla’s face for the first time and would finally know who she was if we passed her on the street.
Kayla has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Wilfrid Laurier University, which gave her the skills required to be successful for our culture production team. Kayla contributes significantly to fostering a collaborative and successful work environment. Kayla is responsible for the growth and maintenance of our bioaugmentation cultures where she focuses on maintaining the cultures, preparing cultures for shipment, problem solving for optimum growth, and evaluating degradation capabilities of our many commercial and research scale bioaugmentation cultures.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kayla has a wide range of interests and hobbies. She spent many years as a synchronized swimming coach and diving coach for the KW Synchro and KW Diving in Kitchener/Waterloo. Following University, Kayla travelled to Korea where she worked as an English teacher. During her time in Korea she travelled to several countries in south east Asia. Kayla has a great love for the outdoors and takes annual trips into the Algonquin back country.
“I am incredibly lucky to be part of such a passionate and dedicated team here at SiREM. The work we do here makes every day both rewarding and meaningful.”
