Larissa Smith to Present at CIM CONNECT

Larissa Smith (Ontario) will present "Molecular Biological Tools for Monitoring Selenium Reduction in Mine Influenced Water" at the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) CONNECT 2025 on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. ET at the Palais des Congrès in Montreal, Canada.

Larissa Smith is a Scientist in the treatability division of SiREM with more than 10 years of experience in treatability services and studies and in other testing fields. She has managed numerous bench-scale studies to evaluate remediation technologies for contaminants including selenium, hexavalent chromium, arsenic, chlorinated solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons, and other recalcitrant compounds.

CIM CONNECT 2025 offers three days of professional development courses, a convention, and a trade show. The theme of the conference, "Minerals, Innovation, and the Energy Transition," reflects the industry's evolving focus from the extraction process to the economic value of the product. This shift emphasizes the importance of circularity, which goes beyond traditional mining by considering the recovery of materials that have already been extracted, such as tailings and other secondary sources.

The conference is hosted by CIM, Canada's leading technical industry resource for the minerals, metals, materials, and petroleum sectors.
